Overpopulation of Deer

Most people realize we have a serious deer problem in Berkeley Lake. Symptoms of the problem include the following:

  • Overgrazing in greenspace
  • Eating ornamental shrubs
  • Fearlessness and aggressive behavior

Berkeley Lake Conservancy

What is going on?

The Conservancy was formed in 1999 to oversee the City's greenspace. All the members resigned early this year, presumably over the lack of ability and authority to do anything about the deer problem. However, the members are still listed on the city website and I have found no mention of the resignations in Council Minutes.

As of September 17, the City website shows vacancies for the citizen positions. Is the city staff reading the Beacon?
